  1. Both songs, "Somewhere I belong" and "numb" relate to the movie, "The Island" Both songs talk about lifes expectations that people put on others and finding your own humanity. In "the island", Lincoln questions his purpose and the reasons behind why he is there. He is expected to not question life and to do everything he is told to. In the songs, it seems like the singer is talking about someone that looks down upon him, especially in "numb" The "doctors" that created the clones don't look at the clones as "real" people and try to keep them as controlled as possible. These songs also realate to the book "The giver" by Lois Lowry. Everyone in that book lives in a community were they have expectations of themselves and have a set purpose for themselves. No one questions it except for the main character who gets the assignment to be "the reciever of memory"
Personally, i think that both songs relate to the ideas of humanities and everything we've gone over in class because they relate to human behavior with contemplation, expectations and conformity and resistance.

  2. I feel like the song "numb" is really all about control or being controlled. I think the singer is trying to talk about how you reall dont play that much of a part in becoming who you are. There are so many influences on who you become and how you grow up. Most of which are telling you who you should be. I think when he says "I've become so numb" hes trying to relate it to how we are controled all our life and after a while we dont even realize it. As Laurel said it can be connected to "The Island" because the company controlled every thing the clone did and how they thought.

  3. The song numb really related to what we have been saying about how you really don’t have to much say in some things. People will always try to make you believe and do what they believe is right. You need to try to make your own choices and dreams and not listen to what other people have to say but what you want. Everyone has people trying to get them to do what they think is best, but this song is saying be who you want to be and not what others expect you to be. The other song somewhere I belong has to do with the same thing about people trying to find themselves but having a hard time with it because everyone wants other things. This relates to The Island because they both talk about how people come to be and what you believe in. this is all relating back to humanities and what it really is about which is cool.

  4. I really like the song Numb. Basically, to me, this song is about conformity, how people bend themselves to be what others want them to be. They conform to their parents' beliefs, their friends', society's beliefs. And the artist (whoever wrote the song) is sick of it. He's sick of trying to be what (someone) wants him to be. If we all try to change ourselves to "fit in" so to say, then we'll all lose our identity. We all want to be accepted. But is it really worth losing who we really are? If that makes sense..

  5. The songs "Numb" and "Somewhere I Belong" both are about not having much control, and trying to live up to someone else's expectations of you. This is showed in line 4, first stanza in "Numb", and it says, "Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes". Also, in "Somewhere I Belong", first and second lines, third stanza from the bottom, it says, "I will never know myself unless i do this on my own." I think that these songs have a lot of meaning behind them, and personally, I think a lot of people can relate to having all this pressure put on them. I know I can relate to these songs.
Also, the songs remind me of the articles we've read in class and how we don't really have a lot of authority over our lives. This relates to "The Island" and all the cloning.

  6. In the song "Numb" by Linkin Park, it seems like the lyrics are talking about being put under pressure and stress of others, and worrying about what others think of yourself. And at the same time talking about how we need to break free of the fear of being judged of others and stop doing what other's say and to just ourselves. In the song "Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park, I noticed that the line "and I let it all out to find that I’m not the only person with these things in mind" reminds me of Lincoln Six Echo, since he was originally the only person to question things and to question the place he was living in. The line "I wanna feel what I thought was never real" also reminds me of The Island as well because Lincoln Six Echo wanted explore the world, outside of the underground confinement he has been living in and feel what he never thought was real.
